Part One: The text.
So, I am at the Singapore
botanical gardens, sheltering from the nexus of a raging thunderstorm, trying
to waste some time before my flight to Auckland at 7:00pm. It is raining VERY
hard. I have never heard thunder and lightning like this before! I made it here
safely from Singapore airport, thanks to the hospitality of my friend Bernard,
a local.
Now that the iCUBE workshop is
over, I was ready to leave Brunei; it will be great to be on my beautiful,
Island home of Waiheke again and spend time in the garden. But I definitely
(perhaps predictably) have been bitten by the travel bug – leaving New Zealand
for more adventures is large in my mind. It will be hard to settle down to
university work, though I must.
This is largely due to the wonderful
people I met at the workshop, from countries worldwide – and although I can be
socially anxious I had a good time with them. The 12 days gave me enough time to
relax and enjoy the humans, as well as their presentations and the countryside.
The last night at the UBD hostel
was… interesting. The staff forgot to prepare us an evening meal, the internet
stopped working – completely. And I ended up being unable to sleep well, so I
lay restlessly in my now filthy (we had no broom or mop) little cubicle
thinking that I really had to get some sleep or travel would be difficult
today. Travel is difficult today, and I am drinking a LOT of coffee.
Back in the Airport. Managed to keep dry. Cannot
drink… anymore… coffee.
Two things I am most looking
forward to:
1) Trimming and cleaning my
fingernails. I forgot my trimmer and the wee knife I sometimes used was taken
away 12 days ago in this very airport.
2) What do I want to eat? A
really BIG bowl of Miso soup with fresh spinach, fresh Udon noodles and a LARGE
slice of *lightly* fried tofu. I eat rice a lot, but for now… no… more… rice.
There will be a part two with
some pictures, unless I starve or dehydrate on this flight.
Ps. On ferry to Waiheke. Survived
flight. There were delays etc. etc. No angry children.
The End.
The End.
glad you made it home safe and sound. i loved the botanic garden in singapore - i found it while walking around quite by accident... did you go to the pond in the centre and see the trees with those amazing root systems above ground? i also met some dragonflies, hundreds of terrapins and 2 resident cats.

I didn't see much: first i was stumbling around out of it on tiredness. Then I sat sheltering for an hour or so while the thunderstorm raged around me. That was fun in its own way, though. Plus it meant an enforced sit down.
